During my time as an Associate with Curtis Wood Architects, I project managed this contemporary dance studio in Chelsea. The project was a fit out of a concrete shell in the prestigious Imperial Wharf development. The client’s brief combined the need for a flexible contemporary studio with her desire to show the glamour and luxury associated with ballroom and latin dancing. We worked within a tight budget and timescale to create a bright, elegant and glamorous space from which our client could run her business. The two main dance studios are light, spacious and flexible with a professional quality maple sprung dance floor, full height mirrors, and folding sliding partitions. The studio also has a full height glass wall to the terrace creating a bright modern feel to the interior. The reception and bar area was designed as a warm and glamorous space for members to relax in, with dark timber flooring, crystal chandeliers, and a sparkling recycled glass bar. The construction of the project took only 10 weeks, and was completed in time for the opening party in December 2008. The contractor for the studio was Scotscape Ltd.
