Telfords Yard is the full refurbishment and reconfiguration of an existing warehouse apartment in Wapping, originally converted in the 1980s. The existing layout was awkward and failed to make the most of the structure and space. The brief from the client was to and create a clean minimal living space with luxurious new bedrooms and bathrooms. The concept for the project was strip the interior back to its shell, expose and refurbish the original concrete beams and brickwork in order to highlight the industrial and spatial qualities of the building. In order to maintain the sense of openness that the client desired and rationalise the layout of private spaces we consulted closely with building control to agree a solution that both complied with current regulations and kept circulation space to a minimum. Specifying the finishes and materials was a collaborative process between the client, contractor and ourselves to find exceptional products and design solutions. The client also worked with bespoke kitchen supplier Bulthaup. Specific to this project we worked with an Audio Visual specialist, installing a new AV system throughout the apartment to provide music and lighting control to all areas. Re:works studio often works with a wide selection of specialist consultants as each project demands. This project was completed October 2010.
